Anybody Else Feeling Burnt Out on Book Talk?

Maybe it’s because I’ve got my wedding coming up in less than 2 months and I’m just generally stressed.

But for whatever reason, I’m just not feeling bookish lately.

I’m still happily promoting my book on some channels and I’m still reading like crazy at home, but taking the time and effort it costs to discuss books with other people? I’m just not about it right now.

I’ve given up on promoting and recommending my book through Facebook groups because, for every person wanting a good book to read, there are a thousand of us authors trying to shove our books at people. I get it, it’s how it goes, but man, do you get tired seeing that you’re just another comment that likely nobody will seriously look at.

I imagine I’m not the only author or reader feeling this way. I bet many of us are straight-up tired of seeing posts about Fourth Wing. (I’m going to be so put out when I finally read the book and find it to be mediocre.)

I finally decided to snooze all my bookish Facebook groups for a few weeks and it’s been really refreshing not to get hit from all sides by the bandwagon.

Oh, and book club. That’s a problem too.

A friend and I started a casual book club and the book we’re reading this month is…just garbage. There’s no nice way to say it. No need to promote the title of this one, as it’s already TikTok famous but let’s just say that anybody could identify it by the copious amounts of toxic masculinity, lack of consent, and the author referring to the dude’s nether regions in insanely ridiculous ways. Knockemout? More like please knockmeout so I don’t have to finish this damn book.

But let me step off my sad soapbox now to say that it’s normal to have periods of time where your hobbies just go a bit sour. I still love books, reading and writing, and I always will.

If you, like me, need to take a break from everyone’s ~opinions~, that’s perfectly okay.

That’s what vacations are for. 😉
