If you’re a writer, you’re likely familiar with the odd, sinking feeling that occurs when you’re staring at a page or your laptop and the words…just aren’t there.
When my mind goes blank, I usually blame it on one of three things:
- Lack of sleep
- Hunger
- My creative juices have just run out
I personally have never had much luck trying to force myself to write through writer’s block, so here’s a list of other activities you can try to burst through the block.
Ways to Beat Writer’s Block
- Take a nap.
- Eat a snack.
- Go on a nice, long walk and try not to think about writing.
- Play with a pet.
- Play a board game or video game for a bit.
- Listen to your favorite song or artist.
- Research starting a new hobby and take the first step.
- Read a book! (Almost always helps me.)
- Update your Goodreads or personal blog.
- Watch an episode of your favorite current show.
- Call or text a friend or family member.
- Go on a run or bike ride.
- Meditate or do some yoga.
- Just call it a day and try again tomorrow! (Your writing isn’t going anywhere.)
